The use of bio-acoustics in biological and ecological studies is widespread as they can be used to study species distribution, phenology, ecology and behaviour of organisms that are often visually elusive. This results in extensive datasets that are scattered in many different locations. As such, the overall objective of DASA is to set-up a robust database structure and design, and a user-friendly web-based interface enabling scientists and the wider public to collect, archive and explore biological acoustic data and accompanying metadata. DASA will be developed based on recordings of bats, but the goal is to broaden this to other taxa (e.g. marine mammals, grasshoppers) in the future.
