Ward Van Roy
Dr. Ward Van Roy has worked with the Belgian Coastguard aerial surveillance program since 2008. Since 2015 he has developed airborne measurement methods to monitor ship compliance with MARPOL Annex VI (NOx and SOx) and introduced black carbon measurements on the Coastguard aircraft. Since 2026 he is responsible for the air quality and ship emission monitoring operations with the research vessel Belgica. His work supports maritime authorities in addressing air pollution in the Belgian North Sea. He also co-convenes the Bonn Agreement MARPOL Annex VI Working Group, is a member of the RBINS scientific diving team, and supports MARECO with underwater noise measurements.
