Scientific diving supports research and education by collecting samples in a scientifically sound manner, and as such contributes to the monitoring of the natural and cultural underwater environment. RBINS scientific divers collect samples for numerous scientific projects. RBINS coordinates the Belgian branch of scientific diving for over 20 years and is part of the European Scientific Diving Panel (ESDP). We are also in charge of the training of Belgian scientific divers. Scientific diving is embedded in a health and safety framework and engages certified scientific divers, diving officers, hyperbaric physicians, scientific project leaders, heads of laboratories, administrators and legislators.
