Annaïk Van Gerven
Annaïk Van Gerven is a marine scientist with an interdisciplinary background, specialized in marine conservation and the sustainable use of marine resources. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Anthropology (ULB), a master’s degree in Environmental Sciences and Management (ULB), and a specialization in Marine Conservation (Université Côte d’Azur). Since joining the MARECO team of RBINS, she has developed her expertise through her participation in several European projects about ocean multi-use, maritime spatial planning, marine conservation and marine protected areas.

ve%20impacts%20on%20the%20marine%20ecosystem%2C%20by%20integrating%20multiple%20offshore%20activities%20in%20different%20configurations%20as%20compared%20to%20these%20activities%20separated%20in%20space%2C%20referred%20to%20as%20single-use.%20These%20configurations%20combine%20renewable%20energy%2C%20aquaculture%2C%20nature%20restoration%20and%20tourism%20activities%2C%20in%20different%20combinations.%20For%20the%20sake%20of%20this%20multi-use%20assessment%20these%20activities%20were%20subdivided%20into%20actions%2C%20their%20allocation%20in%20space%20and%20time%20represented%20in%20scenarios%20%28e.g.%20single-use%20versus%20multi-use%29%20which%20were%20then%20evaluated%20in%20terms%20of%20their%20ecological%20footprint%20%28i.e.%20Impact%20Risk%29.%20The%20main%20finding%20is%20that%20the%20calculated%20Impact%20Risk%20in%20multi-use%20is%20often%20lower%20than%20that%20in%20single-use%20and%20in%20any%20case%20never%20higher.%20This%20study%20also%20shows%20that%20there%20is%20still%20much%20to%20be%20gained%20in%20terms%20of%20further%20reduction%20in%20Impact%20Risk%20through%20an%20optimization%20of%20the%20multi-use%20design%20by%20comparing%20the%20scenario%20based%20on%20actual%20pilots%20deemed%20more%20realistic%20%28i.e.%20co-existence%20with%20limited%20synergies%29%20with%20a%20hypothetical%20optimal%20scenario%20%28i.e.%20multi-functional%29.%26lt%3B%5C%2Fp%26gt%3B%22%2C%22date%22%3A%222024-09-30%22%2C%22section%22%3A%22%22%2C%22partNumber%22%3A%22%22%2C%22partTitle%22%3A%22%22%2C%22DOI%22%3A%2210.3389%5C%2Ffmars.2024.1420095%22%2C%22citationKey%22%3A%22%22%2C%22url%22%3A%22https%3A%5C%2F%5C%2Fwww.frontiersin.org%5C%2Fjournals%5C%2Fmarine-science%5C%2Farticles%5C%2F10.3389%5C%2Ffmars.2024.1420095%5C%2Ffull%22%2C%22PMID%22%3A%22%22%2C%22PMCID%22%3A%22%22%2C%22ISSN%22%3A%222296-7745%22%2C%22language%22%3A%22English%22%2C%22collections%22%3A%5B%22XGHL5S55%22%5D%2C%22dateModified%22%3A%222025-01-09T13%3A32%3A10Z%22%7D%7D%5D%7D
