UNITED

Multi-Use offshore platforms demoNstrators for boostIng cost-effecTive and Eco-friendly proDuction in sustainable marine activities

The UNITED project will provide evidence for the viability of ocean multi-use through the development of five demonstration pilots in the real European marine environment.

The Belgian pilot is centered around the combination of offshore wind energy, seaweed (Saccharina latissima) and European flat oyster (Ostrea edulis) aquaculture, and the restoration of flat oyster reefs; the latter being the main focus of MARECO. As lead of Work Package 8, MARECO is furthermore responsible for the development of a framework to assess the added value of marine multi-use, which will be applied in the five pilots, with a special interest for MARECO in the assessment of environmental impacts of marine multi-use
