MARECO’s Marine Taxonomic Reference Center (MTRC) envisages to further strengthen its morphological and molecular expertise in taxonomy of marine organisms in an international and collaborative setting. To this end, MTRC aims to (1) strengthen and expand the RBINS collection of marine invertebrates (e.g. voucher specimen and photo material), (2) offer taxonomic expertise to third parties, (3) organize trainings and internships on taxonomy, (4) provide digital access to its database. The present-day focus is on the morphological taxonomy of hard substrate invertebrates from the NE Atlantic. In time, a geographic expansion, a coverage of fauna from a wider set of habitats and an inclusion of genetic taxonomic expertise will be realized.
